What is Criminal Fraud?

Fraud can take many shapes, including identity theft and credit card usage. There are examples of people who go out after severe weather situations, solicit to do your roof, you give them money, they never do your roof and leave, that’s a type of fraud. Fraud can be a very serious case because most people take it personally. Fraud comes in the form of someone taking your money, draining your bank account, or taking your credit card, or they take your identity. People can be arrested for stealing someone’s identity and committing criminal offenses. It’s always at least a felony, can be federal, and so you have to make sure you have a lawyer who knows about fraud cases.

Fraud takes many shapes, identity theft is one of the big ones right now. Credit card usage, there’s just lots of different fraud. You see people who go out after severe weather, tornadoes, hurricanes, whatever area you’re in. And they solicit to do your roof or whatever, you give them money, they run, they never do your roof, that’s a type of fraud. And you see those very frequently after severe weather. Fraud can be a very serious case and the reason that it can be is most people look at it from their perspective, and what I mean by that is if somebody defrauds you, if somebody takes your money, and fraud is committed against you, you’re pretty ticked off and they drain your bank account, or they take your credit card, or they take your identity. It’s a long process to try to clear up your identity, and I’ve seen people arrested because someone used their identity and committed criminal offenses. So fraud is a big deal, it’s always at least a felony, can be federal, and so you have to really make sure you have a lawyer who knows about fraud cases.
