DWI Arrest Procedures

Tips on How to Avoid a DWI Conviction on Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day is one of the many holidays out of the year where family members and friends go out and have a few drinks to celebrate. With these celebrations comes the risk of drunk driving to and from events and parties. Texas law enforcement will be out in full force during the Labor Day weekend in order to crack down on any drunk drivers, so it’s important that you and your loved ones know how to avoid a DWI arrest while you’re out.

How Can I Prevent a DWI Conviction in Texas During Labor Day?

  • Ensure there’s a sober driver available. Before going out, make sure that you find a friend or family member that is planning to remain sober and can drive others for the night. Even if a sober driver has been designated, ensure that you have a back-up plan just in case.
  • Use public transportation. If you are travelling in a large group, it might be easiest to take a train or bus into the city during Labor Day weekend. This might also be the cheapest option for everyone.
  • Take a ridesharing service. If you are travelling in a small group, you could take an Uber or Lyft ride to your destination instead of drunk driving. Avoid waiting until last minute to call your ride. There could be many people at that time trying to get a ridesharing vehicle as well. Schedule a car to come and pick up your small group later on in the night.
  • Find somewhere to spend the night. If you are not able to find a designated driver to take your large group to your event, or a ridesharing service is too expensive, consider getting a hotel room for the night. This option might seem unnecessary, but it’s better than risking your lives by driving anyway.
