Sex Crimes

Recent Sex Trafficking Statistics in Dallas

Sex crimes in Dallas can include a variety of offenses relating to illegal or forced sexual activity against another individual. These illegal activities can range from sexual assault and misconduct to rape and prostitution. One category of sex crimes that has increased in Dallas is human sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is the number one fastest-growing organized crime business in the world, and the third largest criminal operation. Here’s some more information on this expanding business, and what you can do if you or someone you know becomes involved in a trafficking ring.

Sex Trafficking Data in Dallas

Human trafficking is when one person is controlled by another through violence, coercion, or deceit in circumstances of forced labor, commercial sex, or domestic enslavement. Since the whole enterprise generally operates under deception and covertness, it can be difficult to get exact data and numbers, even in big cities like Dallas. Texas has been ranked number two for human trafficking crimes in the country, with Dallas and Houston being the top two cities. More than 300,000 people are victims of human trafficking in Texas, including close to 79,000 minors and youth victims. Traffickers have exploited $600 million every year from labor and sex trafficking victims in Texas, and over $6 billion is spent providing lifetime care for victims and survivors.  Sex trafficking in Dallas and the DFW area has been an ongoing issue since the Super Bowl in 2011 (big sporting events and gatherings are large hubs for sex traffickers).

Most sex crimes, like sex trafficking, are considered felony offenses.
