Say goodbye to 2016! The year ends this weekend, and we know there will be a lot of people out there shooting fireworks, seeing friends and family and drinking alcohol. Know that Dallas-Fort Worth police will be in full force patrolling for drunk drivers. Here are some tips to keep you safe and out of jail this New Year’s weekend.
- Thanks to a partnership between MillerCoors and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), there will be a ton of free transportation on New Year’s Eve. All buses, trains, Paratransit Services (and to a limited extent, TRE) will be offering free rides from 6 p.m. Saturday through end of service December 31. This is the second year that Miller Lite Free Rides are happening in Dallas, so if you plan on drinking, know that there will be many different options for you to get where you need to go.
- If public transit isn’t your thing, then make sure to include a designated driver in your group.
- Before you leave for the night, make sure to download some ridesharing apps such as Uber on your phone. That way, when the night is done and you’re ready to head home, a pickup is just a few taps away.
- Pay attention to your alcohol intake! It’s easy to lose track in the midst of New Year’s celebrations, so keep a head count of the number of drinks you have. To limit impairment, alternate alcoholic beverages with water. This will also help keep you hydrated.
